Learn more about The Chain of Survival

The Heart Saver Committee was established in 1987 to promote and support the "Chain of Survival" in the City of Ottawa.

We are a resource network promoting information exchange between instructors on current trends about heart health issues and emergency response. We provide the community with the opportunity to develop CPR and AED skills and become informed citizens in healthy living. There are over 1000 CPR instructors in the region who train approximately 25,000 people per year in CPR.

As part of the Partners in Healthy Living Ottawa Program, we are supported by the City of Ottawa. We have representation and contributions from individual instructors and local agencies who work in partnership with us to promote safe practices as well as healthy living.

The activities that have become the prime focus of the Heart Saver Committee's "mission" are;

  Hosting a CPR Symposium

  Volunteer and advise on mass training events

  Distribute Mass CPR Training Manual
  "Chain of Survival" displays at community events
  Poster presentations for conferences
  CPR course information sheets
  Instructor training of multicultural communities
  Participate in CPR training for Grade 9 students
  Choking prevention program for restaurant staff
  Promotion of CPR and healthy living at community events
  Produce and distribute two CPR videos - "The Chain of Survival" and "Messages of Survival"
  Advertising campaigns on "Women's Heart Health" including wallet cards, bus signs and displays in LOEB grocery stores on "Women's Signs and Symptoms"
