CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR)

What is it? Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), is a First Aid skill you can learn! When a person's breathing and heart have stopped, CPR will help you to maintain life until emergency services arrive. CPR courses will teach you: learn CPR

Dietitians of Canada   about heart disease and how to prevent it;
Dietitians of Canada   to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack;
Dietitians of Canada   to know how to access your local emergency medical service;
Dietitians of Canada   to know how to perform CPR until help arrives;
Dietitians of Canada   to recognize and assist a choking person.


TYPES OF COURSES AVAILABLE
A = HEART SAVER C= BASIC RESCUER
TIME: 3 - 4 hours
FOR: Everyone
You will learn:
  Information about heart disease;
  CPR skills applicable for adults by one rescuer;
  How to respond to a choking adult.
TIME: 6 - 8 hours
FOR: Health care, medical and paramedical personnel and others interested.
You will learn:
  Information about heart disease;
  CPR skills applicable for adults, children, and infants by one rescuer;
  CPR skills applicable for adults by 2 rescuers;
  What to do if an adult, child or infant is choking.
I = INSTRUCTOR AED = AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR
TIME: 12 - 18 hours
FOR
: Those interested in teaching CPR who hold current Basic Rescuer certification.
You will learn:
  How to evaluate the skills of class participants in performing CPR;
  To critically evaluate class presentations on CPR information;
  The principles of adult education.

Additional fees may be incurred.
TIME: 3 - 4 hours
FOR: Everyone.
You will learn:
  Information about AEDs
  How to use an AED on a adult cardiac arrest victim
  Medical - Legal issues relating to AED use in Ontario
REGIONAL HEART SAVER COMMITTEE
The Regional Heart Saver Committee is a group of organizations who work together to:
  1. Increase awareness of CPR courses.
  2. Increase awareness of risk factors.
  3. Decrease the mortality from cardiac arrest.
