Regional Heart Saver Committee (RHSC)
The Regional Heart Saver Committee (RHSC) was established in 1987 to promote and support the Chain of Survival in the Ottawa community. The Chain of Survival is a series of steps that increase the chance of someone surviving heart attack or stroke. RHSC has representation and contribution from cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid teaching agencies, paramedics, fire, police, emergency and allied health care providers.
The current goal of the coalition is to increase the number of citizens trained in CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) thus increasing the incidence of bystander initiated CPR and AED use and improving the chance of survival from cardiac arrest for residents of Ottawa.

Rural Healthy Living Coalition
This coalition of community volunteers, groups, organizations and agencies has an active interest in promoting healthy living in rural Ottawa.
The coalition supports community initiatives and works collaboratively with the community to bring health information, activities and skill building opportunities to rural residents through various activities such as community physical activity events, walking clubs, presentations and health fairs. The coalition focuses on these 4 key areas:
- Physical Activity
- Healthy Eating
- Healthy Weights
- Living Smoke Free
All groups and organizations that live or work in rural Ottawa are invited to join the coalition and apply for funding to develop healthy living initiatives in their community. Members contribute their time, talent and resources to planning and making the programs and activities happen. Members have the option of being involved in all coalition initiatives or only on selected projects.
The RHLC was originally formed in 1998, under the name Rural Heart Health Coalition (RHHC) with a mandate of promoting heart health in rural Ottawa. In 2006, the name was changed to RHLC to reflect a broadening chronic disease prevention focus.
The Rural Health Program of Ottawa Public Health plays a key role in supporting the RHLC through acting as a resource and performing administrative duties.
